Patrick Baudouin "Le Fresnaye" Anjou Rouge 2017

LOOP LINE TASTING NOTES | The 2017 Patrick Baudouin "La Fresnaye" Anjou Rouge — from Patrick Baudouin and his estate in the Loire’s Anjou region — is a 100% Cabernet Franc (with sometimes a small fraction of Grolleau) grown on a tiny 0.9 ha schist-and-limestone parcel called La Fresnaye. On the nose it brings bright red-fruit (think cherry, wild strawberry, red currant) with floral and earthy undertones, while the palate is juicy, direct, and mineral-inflected, supported by fine, slightly rustic tannins and a brisk acidity that reflects its schist roots. It’s organically farmed, hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts and aged in used Burgundian barrels, resulting in a wine that marries wild, natural-wine character with elegant Loire terroir expression — rustic yet refined, and beautifully suited to charcuterie, pork, grilled meats or rustic fare.
